Chris Columbus / Swingin' Gaites

Mansfield,  1969ish -early 1970s

This band included D'Arco Smith on drums, and most likely band leader. D'Arco has a long history of music in Mansfield . The group recorded a 45 at Musicol just around the turn of the decade. The A side is credited to Lawanda Braggs, the primary singer of the group, and the Swingin' Gaites while the flip side, a frantic take of the often recorded Archie Bell and the Drells hit, includes two sharp funky drum breaks by D'Arco. The Chris Columbus of this group has no connection to other Chris Columbuses (the jazz drummer, the explorer)
