Joy

Youngstown, 1971-74?

This Youngstown band of rockers included Billy Joe Shina (lead vocals), Bob DiPiero (guitar), Don DiPiero (bass), Ralph Densmore (drums), and Ralph Vitello (keyboards). Shina had previously been in a band called the Sunshine Trolley.

In 1972 Joy released two 45s and an LP titled "Thunderfoot" on the Louisiana based Paula label. At the time we're not sure how the band hooked up with the label, but the LP includes all originals and has some excellent tracks. These were the only records by this band, numerous other recordings credited to Joy are different acts. The band was popular and well regarded in the local music scene. Bob DiPiero eventually ended up in Nashville and has become one of the most successful songwriters in the country of the past 15-20 years.
