Little Hot Rod and the Fire Blazers

Canton, 1967-1969

Little Hot Rod was the performing name for Ronald Stowers of Canton. He completed 42 hours of continuous guitar playing at 11 years old, which give him a self-established title of 'Ohio guitar picking champion'. For a few years he was the guitarist in a band that, according to the newspaper article, included 3 other members of his family.

The group, Little Hot Rod and the Fire Blazers, played locally for a couple years. They recorded one 45 for Walt Bratka in Canton. The A side was a song about the December 1967 Silver Bridge disaster, while the B side was a slow ballad. The lead vocal, and writing credit, is by Sonny Lowers. The flip side is credited to Opal Lantz (of Lanjo records). The label is assigned the number B 1006, which fits into the numbering system that Bratka used for records he produced on the Westwood label.

There's no mention of Stowers or Little Hot Rod after 1970. There's one ad for Sonny Lowers and his Country Boys playing in Massilon, 1971.
