Marquees

Columbus, late 1950s

The Marquees were a doowop vocal group from Columbus, with 4 or 5 part harmony. They made one 45 for a label named Daysel, which was probably derived from one of the producers listed on the label Dave Segel. Dave Suriano is credited as songwriter and producer.

The label also listed the Jean Joseph Trio, or the Gene Joseph Trio, depending on which side of the record you're seeing! The correct name is the Gene Joseph Trio and their existence goes back to 1954, if not before. They played around the central Ohio area. The group included Gene Joseph on drums, Art Baskerville on piano, and Bill Jones on bass. The group also included Paul Cousar on sax as a guest or part time member.
