the New Continentals

Cleveland, 1967-9

The New Continentals were led by Bobby Porello, the younger brother of Joey Porello. Joey had led the original Continentals, who changed their the name to the GTOs. The Continentals moniker was revived and revised for Bobby.

The band featured a horn-equipped soul-rock sound. They played a number of local club gigs especially in late 1968 and early 1969. Around that time they recorded a couple songs at Boddie which never made it past acetate. "Sweeter Than Sugar" has a great Cleveland sound and if had been released, would likely be a coveted record for the rare soul dance club scene.
