RAMP

Cincinnati, late 1970s

Roy Ayers was already a major star in jazz music by 1977. Somehow he was in Cincinnati, a city where he doesn't seem to have any roots, and put together a project called RAMP aks Roy Ayers Music Production.

The band included Landy Shores (guitar), Nate White (bass), John Manuel (drums) and two singers, Sharon Matthews and Sibel Thrasher. Ayers wrote all but one of the songs.

The LP was released in 1977, along with a 45 of the song "Everybody Loves The Sunshine", but it wasn't successful at the time. Years later, the distinct funk/jazz sounds have got a lot of exposure, on their own and used in samples..

All the attention got the band to refoim with all original members, back in 2006, They are still an active band performing sporadically, with two add singers, Kia Bennett and Desiree Jordan.
