the Wyngates

Ft. Thomas, KY, 1965-8

pic

The Wyngates were formed by five Ft. Thomas high school students. The original band included Ed Wilbers (keyboards), Danny Schear (guitar), Dave Van Horn (bass), Gil Goldston (drums), and Darryl McIntyre (singer). In 1967 the band recorded two original songs - the nice uptempo vocal "See What's Right" and the instrumental "Persian Night Flight" at King and got it released on Counterpart records. The 45 got a lot of airplay on WUBE, thanks to support of station jock "Bwana Ghandi". "Persian Night Flight" was also used as "bed" music for WUBE news breaks!

David Schott replaced Gil not long after the 45. Mike Reilly (who had been in the Marc V) replaced Dave Van Horn in the later stages of the band. After Ed Wilbers left to join the New Lime, Reilly and Schear reorganized the band, which led to Reilly (and later, Schear) joining the East Orange Express. Mike Reilly was a member of Pure Prarie League.
