Ghutts / Rush
Ghutts were an Akron band that played local clubs such as the Somewhere Else in Akron. The band included James Langley and Pam Russo. Steve Barbuto was also possibly a member.
In early 1973 an ad for Somewhere Else lists the band changed their name to Rush. While you wonder about sharing the name of superstars, this group was using the name a year before the Canadians made a record. Rush was a pretty common band name until 1974. The same ad lists first names (in addition to Pam and Jim) Greg, Jeff, and two more Jims.
A 1974 story about Thump says that some members used to be in Ghutts and Rush. We don't know who though.
