the Pea Jaze / PJs

Mansfield, 1965-1967

This Mansfield band was led by Art Jones. They were booked by American Talent and played many of the clubs in the AT sphere of influence, including the Mixer, Snow Trails, and the Attik in Salem. They were a tight band with a good stage presence that played teen dance favorites, typical of the AT bands.

For a short time they were billed as the PJs - "the band that plays in their pajamas". That sure sounds like a American Talent/Apperson/Musselman gimmick. The band must have dropped that and changed their name to the hipper Pea Jaze.

The band did not make any recordings.
