Shari Drake and the Vernonaires

Howard, early 1960s

Shari Drake recorded a teen-pop 45 for Hilltop in 1962. She was a high school junior from the tiny town of Howard, a few miles east of Mt. Vernon. On the record, she was backed by the Vernonaires, a group of girls from Mt. Vernon - the town being the inspiration for their name. She is credited with writing both sides.

Like Louie and the Ambassadors 45 on Hilltop, the record was produced by local DJ Carl Day. Shari made a few appearances to promote the record, then seems to have disappeared. There seems to have been another Vernonaires band from Cincinnati.
