the Sounds Of Night

Miamisburg, 1967

The UMAC production company was based at the Sound Shop music store in Miamisburg. They were behind several artists listed here, including Trudi/Hopple Street Exit, Chapter, and the Jordan Parker Review.

One of UMAC's goals was to help aspring local musicians form bands and record demos. They set up a label, Celeste, for marketing recordings with potential. Bill Reece was a local singer/songwriter who came to UMAC and brought two songs he wrote, "Hey Girl" and "Lantern Of Time". He recorded them with the UMAC team (Harry Urschel, Billy Albert) as the backing band. The songs were released on Celeste, credited to the Sounds Of Night. The Sounds of Night was a one-off moniker, there was never a working band.

The record didn't get much action, but it's a 'moody teen garage' 45.

We don't know what happened to Bill Reece. His record was the only 45 on Celeste, as the UMAC team had used other labels (Night Owl, etc) fro their producitons.
