the Triptides
Cincinnati, 1964-5
June 1964, L-R: Chuck Hutchinson, Gene Barnett, Gregg Stahely, Bob Kistner. Leny Watson on drums in the background
The Ohio River may not be suitable for surfing, or have
oceanfront type beaches, but in Cincinnati, the Triptides were trying
to bring some Beach Boys styled surf and hotrod sounds to the Queen
City.
The group were a vocal trio. The primary lead singer was Bob Kistner, with Gregg Stahley and Chuck Hutchison. Bob, Gregg, and Chuck were students at Roger Bacon High School. According to the 1964 newspaper story, they were backed on some occasions by Little Caesar and His Three Romans, a Cincinnati band, from Xavier High School. The Romans were Gene Barnett, Leny Watson, Mike Allen, and David Allen.
The group recorded a 45 for Official records. The B side is good rockin' song about THE car of 1964, the Ford Mustang. The song is credited to Gene Barnett and Leny Watson.
